Lindenhurst Union Free School District faculty and staff hit the courts in an effort to raise money for pediatric cancer.

During the fourth annual “Battle of the Schools, Teachers Spiking out Cancer” volleyball tournament organized by middle school reading specialist Kelly Bardak and held at the Lindenhurst High School, teachers, administrators and staff competed against each other, much to the enjoyment of the community of spectators.

The annual event benefits the Christina Renna Foundation. Christina Renna was a young Lindenhurst student who, sadly, lost her battle with cancer. Christina was a member of the girls varsity track team when Bardak was the assistant coach. This year, the fundraiser generated $2,870.

This was the first year to include a team comprised of Lindenhurst alumni. That team competed against the middle school team to earn the title of champion. The final score was 25-19.

63 Men’s & Women’s Track student-athletes helped at the Tacos 4 Life “pack a meal” Sunday night! #communityservice #BearClawsUp

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomores Jacqueline Kutcher (West Newbury, Mass.) and Brianna Rovella (Farmington, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics team took time out on Saturday to volunteer at the Adaptive Sports Fest held at Moore Field House.

This is just one example of many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes take part in on an annual basis. SCSU student-athletes have volunteered more than 1,500 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2017-18 academic year.

Student-athletes and coaches from the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department assisted with the university’s Owl For A Day program on Wednesday. During the course of this event, students from area elementary schools come to campus for the day and take part in various activities throughout campus.

This is just one example of many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes take part in on an annual basis. SCSU student-athletes have volunteered more than 1,500 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2017-18 academic year.

Sachem’s annual “March Madness” tradition has been a staple for the student body for more than 20 years.

Students spend the days enjoying a spring “spirit week” where each day promotes a different fun theme – America, decades, school pride – and the week culminates with a basketball tournament featuring both staff and students.
